Allstate

Beauty Blogger: Allstate Mayhem

This advertisement was made to make people want to get Allstate insurance. But let's go deeper than just getting new or different insurance. This ad wants the audience to understand that our lives are unpredictable and that if something happens to one of our possessions, it can be a headache. This ad wants you to feel like you are not alone in whatever accident may have occurred and that Allstate is there to help. We all experience little or big mishaps that someone or ourselves may have accidentally caused, and the damage can be significant; that is what the ad is trying to make us understand.

Another thing is the kind of viewer (us) may be watching. This ad shows mayhem pretending to be a beauty blogger, shows a hair tutorial for likes, and then sets the straightener on a towel, which eventually causes a fire. What they are trying to show is that our brains may not thoroughly think things through or are not paying attention to what we have done or what is around us, and so this can cause little problems that can cause even bigger ones when someone is not paying attention. This ad can be for everyone, considering everyone has made small mistakes, and Allstate is there to help through big or small unexpected incidents.

Another aspect of this ad is how it shows us overall and how we should react. It shows us that small mistakes can grow significantly if left unseen, that Allstate can help with all considerable expenses, and that Mayhem can happen in anyone's life, even bloggers with hundreds of likes. The audience should respond with feelings of relatability and want to get Allstate as their go-to insurance and have a little laugh. Ads like this are meant to be funny and relatable to the audience so that the ad can convince them to be customers of the specific company so that the target audience can save money.

The ad uses Mayhem (the middle-aged-looking man) in the video to do a hair tutorial with his very short hair while wearing under-eye masks and in a more feminine-looking room, saying that he is an aspiring beauty blogger and that the tutorial will get many likes. His saying and doing those things is funny because he does not look like the type to do self-care in the way he did in the ad. He also says things the younger generation uses but does not precisely say them in the proper context. It is organized by him talking in a younger, more recent tone, doing a hair tutorial, setting down a hair straightener and causing a fire, and then leaving after putting on some sparkly white sunglasses and recommending the specific home insurance, accompanied by some drums to continue the comedic tone. Now that we have examined this ad more closely, what do you think? How does it make you feel? Would you consider getting Allstate insurance as your go-to insurance?
