Mental Health

Image
Entry #10 Mental health Yep, here it is. Mental health. This is something that is a complicated topic for most, even though almost everyone goes through a rough patch with their mental health. Still, because it is such a taboo topic that no one can dare talk about or worry others will look down on, pity, or treat them differently, people refuse to tell others what they're going through. Even I have struggled and continue to struggle with mental health, but the problem was that I never wanted to ask for help. Even my closest friends didn't know that I sometimes wanted to disappear and that they would be better off without me. But I could not have been farther from the truth. Image source So I am writing this to let you know that even though this is a complex topic and you may not want to share with someone, after I shared what I was going through with someone I trusted, I have been able to let go of some things and be happier than I was. I have also realized that no one would b...

Food Convenience

Image
Entry #9 Convenience Image source Americans are all for convenience. But when is too much convenience too much? We are constantly seeking the quickest solution to all our problems, for example, easy and fast ways to lose weight, get abs, gain muscle, get married, get a good job, etc. But the main thing we go for is the fastest way to eat and get food. Now, why is this such an important topic? Well, a lot of this food is mass-produced and heavily processed. Even though many canned and bagged vegetables seem healthy, it doesn't mean there aren't many GMOs (genetically modified organisms) and other unhealthy things in them that are added.  Image source I get it—we are busy people, so we go for the fastest food to eat and get out of the house. But then again, is that really healthy for our bodies and even the bodies of our loved ones to whom we are feeding this food? When thinking about convenience, there are many gas stations and stores where, as soon as you walk in, there is food...

To Become Emotionally Intelligent

Image
Entry #8 Emotional Intelligence So, you've come here to learn about emotional intelligence. Well, I have a lot for you. You need to know many small details and three main sections that will help you: self-awareness, empathy, and social skills. Are you ready to learn to be more aware of your emotions, recognize others, and manage your reactions to have healthier communication and relationships? If so... Let's go!  Image source Self-Awareness The first step is to recognize your emotions. You must pay close attention to your feelings and identify what triggers certain negative or positive emotions. Analyze what situations or people evoke strong emotional responses. After finding that out, reflect on your feelings and how they impact your decision-making and interactions with others. Journaling helps me organize my thoughts and feelings and may also help you... even if you aren't a writer.  Image source Empathy Next is Empathy, which is the ability to understand and share pe...

Our Food

Image
Entry #7 Food Have you ever wondered where the food you put in your mouth comes from? I never did until I watched the film Fresh , which is based on the food production industry (not the horror movie). This documentary focuses on sustainable agriculture and depicts farmers, activists, and entrepreneurs changing the American food system. As people who live in America and eat mass-produced food, we should wonder where our food comes from, if it harms us, animals, and the earth, and how we can help change the food system. Image source The majority of the food we eat is mass-produced in factories and farms that use GMOs and is not of good quality, which can lead to health problems. One of our biggest concerns is whether it is healthy, but healthy, organic, and safe food costs much more than mass-produced food. When it comes to our food, most of the time, we only focus on whether it will fill us up and satisfy us, not if it will have any lingering health effects or if it is something ...

Smiles

Image
Entry #6 Smiles When it comes to smiles, all are beautiful in their own unique way. Whether they have dimples, braces, gummy smiles, toothy smiles, gap teeth, or even missing ones, they are all beautiful as a sign of happiness. I am often delighted to see smiles no matter how they look because smiles usually mean happiness. Being happy and showing a smile, whether closed or a happy toothy grin, makes me so happy. How do smiles make you feel? Image source On my bad days, when someone smiles at me or compliments me with a smile, I end up smiling and happy right after. I've had many cases where I have had a terrible or lousy day, and a smile can go a long way for me. I have always thought everyone deserves to see a smile and smile from a young age because it is so special. A smile can make grumpy or seemingly unapproachable people much less scary, giving more room for people to become friends. Most of the time, all people need is kindness and sincerity. Smiles that you can tell are s...

Commercial Mayhem

Image
Entry #5 Allstate Beauty Blogger: Allstate Mayhem This advertisement was made to make people want to get Allstate insurance. But let's go deeper than just getting new or different insurance. This ad wants the audience to understand that our lives are unpredictable and that if something happens to one of our possessions, it can be a headache. This ad wants you to feel like you are not alone in whatever accident may have occurred and that Allstate is there to help. We all experience little or big mishaps that someone or ourselves may have accidentally caused, and the damage can be significant; that is what the ad is trying to make us understand.  Image source Another thing is the kind of viewer (us) may be watching. This ad shows mayhem pretending to be a beauty blogger, shows a hair tutorial for likes, and then sets the straightener on a towel, which eventually causes a fire. What they are trying to show is that our brains may not thoroughly think things through or are not pa...

Creating Calm

Image
Entry #4 Calm Most people can never find time to wind down and relax. Too much going on in their lives stresses them out, and they can never find a sense of calm. We should all make space for calm in our lives and not focus on all the stressful things around us. Everyone needs calm every day, and some do not know how to achieve that. I will admit that I did not until I learned what it meant to find quiet and relaxation daily. I will now share with you some things I do to achieve this calm everyone knowingly or unknowingly seeks. Image source One of the first things I did was silence all of the notifications from my phone or other devices that I often use that were not beneficial to me, such as mobile game notifications, social media notifications, and anything else that was not precisely necessary. You may be thinking now, "Okay? Now, what if those are absolute necessities in my life?" Are they really? Do you really need all of the notifications you get throughout the day? Ar...
